HB 1139 PASSES OUT OF COMMITTEE

House Bill 1139 is a piece of legislation Indiana Hands & Voices and a number of other organizations working with deaf and hard-of-hearing children has been actively supporting during this session of the Indiana General Assembly.

The bill, originally authored by Rep. Timothy Brown and Rep. Pat Bauer, has two parts dealing with hearing aides.  The first part provides that a person may not sell, lease, or rent a hearing aid in Indiana unless the hearing aid has been fitted by a hearing aid dealer or an audiologist.  The second portion of the bill, which has been the portion of the bill Indiana Hands & Voices has been actively supporting, requests the state department of health to report information to the health finance commission concerning: (1) the number of minors who are hearing impaired; and (2) the estimated cost for a state program and a health insurance requirement to provide hearing aids to those minors.

HB 1139 passed out of the Commerce and Economic Development Committee Monday Feb. 24 by a vote of 6-0 and will go to both houses for final action within the next week.

Polo At Sunset 2014

Indiana Hands & Voices has announced the 2014 date for their second annual Polo fundraiser.  The date is Saturday, June 28th starting at 1pm at the Hickory Hall Polo Club located near Whitestown, IN at 7551 East 100 North.

Last Year's inaugural event, Polo At Sunset, drew over 300 fans and supporters, many of which witnessed their very first live polo match.  The west sideline of the lush playing field was completely lined with tents and lawn chairs for people picnicking and sharing beverages while bidding on silent auction items and participating in raffles.  This year's soiree, Polo At The Hall, will be much the same format but with more sideline activities in which the audience can participate.

Be watching our website in the coming months for more details about this year's "Polo At The Hall" event and how to purchase tickets online.  Circle the date and start making plans to attend this great afternoon of fun and entertainment with all proceeds going to support the programs of Indiana Hands & Voices.
